The Blue Room

When I get to visit my parents, I stay in a room that's filled with antiques that belonged to my Great Grandmothers. Each piece is a reminder of a Grandmother that I loved dearly growing up and holds beautiful memories for me. I'm grateful for every time my Mom and Dad sent me over to visit with each of them, as a kid. It wasn't always something I preferred to do, especially as a teen, but now as I look back, I wouldn't trade hearing the stories of their childhood for anything in the world.
Something most people don't know about me is that I've seen every single episode of Little House on the Prairie AND The Waltons EVER MADE. Not just once, but at least 3 or 4 times! I get something out of each episode. It may sound strange to some, but not to me. It may be that I have an "old soul".  I have my Greats to thank for that.

Here is the room I stay in known as the "blue room".
This is a replica of my great Grandmother Hodges' bed. My Mom painted it blue.
This belonged to my Grandmother Hodges. Her first name was Ollie. It's where my name came from.
Mama added glass to make this bedside table.

These books, that sit under the lamp, belonged to my MeMaw.
She was an elementary school teacher just like my Mom has been for 31 years.
These are 2 of the 4 Great Grandmothers I grew up with. The milk glass belonged to another... my Nanny.

This Kutz hat box also belonged to her.
She was a sophisticated lady who had everything a woman could want and would give me anything my heart desired. Her daughter (my Meme) is the same way, very kind and loving. They both made me feel like I was one of a kind.  My Nanny would always say, "Holly, you can't be good at everything." I miss her the most.
This also belonged to her.

This belonged to my Granny Clara. My Mom had it recovered in the blue and white toile and ticking.

These are my parents... Daddy on the left and Mama on the right.

  5. Very inviting room. It's so nice that you appreciate the heritage of your relatives. I believe it is important to cherish what has come before us and leave our own mark on tomorrow. We never know the influence we have on others. Thanks for sharing the blue and white. It reminds me of my mother.
